Curatorial Statement
The ramp extends, and the threshold lowers,
yet the distance between our hearts still feels distant.
Each time we encounter an unexpected disruption in pace,
we instinctively turn away.
As we spend more time thinking about how to live on our own,
our questions about how to lean on others slowly fade and lose their urgency.
We are accustomed to a meritocratic order
in which being responsible for oneself is taken as the measure of maturity.
Any gesture of leaning on someone else has often been seen as a sign of weakness.
Yet looking after and caring for others is not a one-sided act;
it takes place mutually within relationships.
Exchanging greetings, offering a hand,
and walking slowly in step with one another are all part of this process.
We need to move beyond simply learning to be considerate
and instead cultivate the art of relationship,
the ability to adjust our pace while looking out for each other.
This, too, is a way of reflecting on how different beings live together
while preserving their own distinctiveness.
This exhibition places its emphasis on the process of creation
rather than on any completed result.
The participants bring the dynamics of their turbulent relationships into space.
For them, creation is not an individual achievement
but a record of collaboration built through mutual affirmation and support.
The creative process, where differences collide and intermingle,
becomes a form of care in itself. And in this process,
disability is not an individual narrative to be overcome,
but a communal power that brings people together.
We may fall out of step or miss a beat, yet the song continues.
Within the tangled harmony,
amid anxiety and the noisy confusion of voices clashing and mingling,
we end up singing a song different from the one written in the score.
Reaching out our hands willingly,
insisting on staying by one another’s side, leaning on each other,
with a little help from friends.
